Actually, it's my birthday (or was until about 15 minutes ago). Time for

Anyway, to dress up the page a bit, here's something ornamenty and twinkly:

Happy Birthday, Stoned!

Well folks, Carl has made it to the ripe old age of 30. Let me pass this to the Birthday Boy...

And remember, the cake is a lie

Left4Dead2 server now up!
Posted by [Mage]-BadPing- on 12/05/09 10:54 PM
I just upgraded Left4Dedicated to Left4Dead 2 and updated HLStatsX to support it. Of course I haven't bought the game yet, but I'm sure Santa will take care of that...

I also had to run a bunch of OS updates, vaccum/optimize postgresql and mysql/databases, throw some crap away, compress some other crap, run some backups, erase Festo's goat pr0n, and nuke from orbit and rebuild the monitoring and management software, and reboot the box.

Yeah, I was bored and high

I'd also like to note that the CS:S server was almost full for a few hours tonight. *snif* It felt like old times...

Next stop is getting the Q2 Warehouse back in action, if only for old time's sake. Plus we would all get like 500 FPS!

This Just In!

Everything old is new again

Some of you may remember we used to have a box called QuadDamage, way back in the day. It was this massive, loud, bulky hulk of a machine. It sported quad PIII@733MHz processors, which was hot snot at the time. Somewhere in the Third World, that box is still probably being picked over for copper wire and scrap steel. Or serving as refugee center. It was that big.

Now I'm sitting here with this quiet little pizza box in front of me. It's politely blinking and whirring along, busily efficient. Quad-Xeon 2.4Ghz server chips and RAM/cache up the yin-yang. Figure that it's about 10 times as powerful as the server it's replacing

Behold: racked and online! It's the one on top, with the (\v/) sticker.

Get your wallets out...

$4,000,000,000,000.00

What's the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion?

A million seconds is 13 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.

A million minutes ago was – 1 year, 329 days, 10 hours and 40 minute ago.
A billion minutes ago was just after the time of Christ.

A million hours ago was in 1885.
A billion hours ago man had not yet walked on earth.

A million dollars ago was five (5) seconds ago at the U.S. Treasury.
A billion dollars ago was late yesterday afternoon at the U.S. Treasury.

A trillion dollars is so large a number that only politicians
can use the term in conversation... probably because they
seldom think about what they are really saying. I've read that
mathematicians do not even use the term trillion!
Here is some perspective on TRILLION:

Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000.
The country has not existed for a trillion seconds.
Western civilization has not been around a trillion seconds.
One trillion seconds ago – 31,688 years – Neanderthals stalked the plains of Europe.

Million: 1,000,000
Billion: 1,000,000,000
Trillion: 1,000,000,000,000
