Some of you may remember we used to have a box called QuadDamage, way back in the day. It was this massive, loud, bulky hulk of a machine. It sported quad PIII@733MHz processors, which was hot snot at the time. Somewhere in the Third World, that box is still probably being picked over for copper wire and scrap steel. Or serving as refugee center. It was that big.
Now I'm sitting here with this quiet little pizza box in front of me. It's politely blinking and whirring along, busily efficient. Quad-Xeon 2.4Ghz server chips and RAM/cache up the yin-yang. Figure that it's about 10 times as powerful as the server it's replacing
Behold: racked and online! It's the one on top, with the (\v/) sticker.

$4,000,000,000,000.00
What's the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion?
A million seconds is 13 days. A billion seconds is 31 years. A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.
A million minutes ago was – 1 year, 329 days, 10 hours and 40 minute ago. A billion minutes ago was just after the time of Christ.
A million hours ago was in 1885. A billion hours ago man had not yet walked on earth.
A million dollars ago was five (5) seconds ago at the U.S. Treasury. A billion dollars ago was late yesterday afternoon at the U.S. Treasury.
A trillion dollars is so large a number that only politicians can use the term in conversation... probably because they seldom think about what they are really saying. I've read that mathematicians do not even use the term trillion! Here is some perspective on TRILLION:
Trillion = 1,000,000,000,000. The country has not existed for a trillion seconds. Western civilization has not been around a trillion seconds. One trillion seconds ago – 31,688 years – Neanderthals stalked the plains of Europe.
Million: 1,000,000 Billion: 1,000,000,000 Trillion: 1,000,000,000,000

A sign that I have been out of the loop far too long:

They are releasing Quake III as a browser plugin[1]. Excuse me while I go count up how many dollars I spent on new hardware back when the original, polygon-tastic Q3 demo came out. And now it's a browser plugin? Jesus rocket-jumping christ on a spawn pad!

It's been a while, hasn't it?

There's been very little activity on clanmage.net over the past few years. Gradually, the demands of real life have been sapping away members and fragmenting our little club.
But one member of Mage has shown unflagging dedication. For over 2.5 years, this key member has had an absolutely perfect attendance record: not a single second of duty missed in over 900 days. Who is this crazed, insomniac member? It's the webserver itself.
So raise a toast and drink to the machine that can keep it up all night and day

Well this is the first post of 2008! Only took a month for someone to post something semi-useful or interesting. This task is being done by myself, and due to that I'm going to ramble.
On the World of Warcraft front, is there any other front? I dunno. Curse Gaming has launched a beta of Wowdb.com, a item/quest/etc database similar to the works of Wowhead.com. This new comer to the Warcraft db-verse has a couple cool features: search assistant, 3D model previews, item comparison, armory import, etc. Those being the cooler of the features. Hope people give it a shot, enjoying how it works so far!
In other news, Valve and Turtle Rock are working on a new game, Left 4 Dead. Summary: Left 4 Dead is a multiplayer cooperative survival horror shooter in development by Valve Corporation based on the Source engine. There are two sides, the Survivors and Infected. Four players control the four Survivors, working their way through campaigns in rural and urban areas, fighting off dozens of the AI-controlled "infected" (fast, 28 Days Later style zombies). On top of the regular zombies, there are four player-controlled "boss zombies" all with unique powers for causing chaos. This mix of the dozens of AI-controlled infected zombies and the boss zombies makes for an entirely fresh co-op experience. ... interesting..
CS-Nation has a two part preview [one|two] of the game so go check it out on the CSN links above to see whether or not this zombie-fest is for you. Also is the link to Gametrailer's HD trailer for the game, its more of a teaser. Definitely reminds me of 28 Days or Dawn of the Dead.
Other than that...uh .. oh and the Patriots lost. : (

Call of Duty 4
Posted by [Mage]Spooks on 10/19/07 11:33 PM |
I downloaded the demo HERE and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pretty tough partly due to the fact that I didn't know what to expect. The best description I can give is, it seems like a combination of Call of Duty 2 and Operation Flashpoint maybe.
"It has been confirmed by Infinity Ward that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will ship with 16 maps out-of-the-box (thanks FPSAdmin). Definitely some great news for those who like extra variety."
